Having
conversations about not being where I want to be. Could
be that you are not working actively toward moving your career forward.
Getting yourself a coach is a great way to stop NOT focusing on your
priorities.
Know
this: there is no neutral position. What that means is that if you're
not actively working to move your career forward, then you are, by definition,
allowing your career to move backwards because there's always someone
younger, smarter, and less expensive than you are coming up from the
ranks. And, to state the obvious, allowing that gap to narrow is NOT
a recipe for success.
So
what ARE you doing with respect to your career? Are you occasionally
checking Monster.com and thinking that's enough?
Are
you allowing your friends and colleagues to coach you into complacency?
There's far more to an assertive career-development plan than that.
So what part of that plan AREN'T you working on? What elements of your
plan are you ignoring or procrastinating about? And even more importantly,
how much longer are you going to kid yourself about how things
will get better if you just act like nothing's wrong?
